Where the trade is

Ropewalks, between Hanover Street and Roscoe Street behind Bold Street, is the city centre's district of independent shops, cafés, restaurants and night-time venues, with Concert Square one of the main areas for outdoor drinking and nightlife since the 1990s.2 Bold Street is the focus of the centre's independent shops and services; the main retail area is Liverpool One, Church Street, Lord Street and the centres around Williamson Square, and about 9,300 people work in city-centre retail.3 The Baltic Triangle, a former warehouse district between Liverpool One and the south docks, had more than 500 businesses by 2020, with independent markets, beer gardens, music venues and studios.4 In 2022 the Liverpool BID company counted 78 million visits to the city centre, with 6pm the busiest hour, Saturday the busiest day and October the busiest month.5

When the room is full

On Square: Square Terminal, Register and Handheld keep taking payments offline and upload them when the connection returns, within 24 hours to be safe. Contactless cards need a connection, phone wallets don’t. For trading away from Wi-Fi we fit a Shift4 One card machine with its own SIM card, which works on mobile data.
